If you’ve never had the pleasure of knowing a donkey, let me introduce you to two of the most lovable, quirky, and downright entertaining members of our farm—Fiona and Donkey. They may not be guardians or working animals, but they’ve certainly found their place as beloved pets and honorary troublemakers.
Fiona: The Laid-Back Sweetheart

Fiona is the definition of easygoing. Nothing fazes her—she’s happy to spend her days leisurely grazing, soaking up the sun, and occasionally wandering over for some ear scratches. She loves attention and has absolutely no problem leaning into you for as many pets as she can get. If you stop too soon, she’ll look at you with those big, soulful eyes until you cave and start scratching again.
Unlike some donkeys who thrive on drama, Fiona is more of a “go with the flow” kind of gal. She doesn’t make a fuss unless there’s food involved, and even then, she’s patient (well, mostly). She’s the kind of donkey who makes life feel a little more peaceful, always keeping things calm in the pasture.
She also has a bit of a lazy streak. While some donkeys might be inclined to run around and stir up trouble, Fiona firmly believes in conserving energy. She prefers a slow and steady pace, only moving with real enthusiasm when she hears the rustle of a treat bag. It’s safe to say she has us all wrapped around her hoof.
Donkey: The Mischievous Mastermind

Then there’s Donkey. If Fiona is the calm, grounding presence, Donkey is the wild card. He’s got a big personality, and he isn’t shy about showing it. He’s talkative, opinionated, and fully believes he’s the most important animal on the farm. If you stop petting him too soon, he’ll give you a firm nudge as if to say, “Excuse me, we weren’t finished.”
Unlike some donkeys, Donkey isn’t the type to test fences or make a break for it—he’s quite content where he is. His mischief is more about demanding attention, making dramatic faces, and ensuring that no one forgets to give him his fair share of scratches and treats. He’s a bit of a show-off, too. If he sees you giving Fiona attention, he’ll immediately position himself right in front of her, making sure he’s the center of the universe once again.
And while Fiona may be laid-back, Donkey makes sure there’s never a dull moment. Whether he’s braying for breakfast, trying to sneak a bite of something that isn’t his, or giving you his best “poor, starving donkey” look (despite being well-fed), he knows exactly how to work a crowd.
Partners in Mischief

Despite their differences, Fiona and Donkey are inseparable. They graze together, nap together, and if they ever get separated, you’ll hear about it—loudly. Their brays echo across the farm, making sure the whole world knows they are not happy about their temporary distance.
They’ve also perfected the art of team begging. If you have treats, Fiona will take the soft, guilt-trip approach, staring at you sweetly until you give in. Donkey, on the other hand, takes a more direct approach, practically putting his nose in your pocket to check for snacks. Between the two of them, resistance is futile.
While they don’t have any official farm duties, they’ve taken on an important role—keeping us entertained, making us laugh, and reminding us why we love having donkeys in the first place. They bring joy to every day with their antics, their affection, and their undeniable charm.
So, if you ever stop by, don’t be surprised if Fiona ambles over for some gentle head scratches while Donkey stands front and center, demanding to be the star of the show. Just don’t forget the snacks—because trust me, they won’t.
